White Lady

A Celtic book cover.

Here you have what client asked me to do:

"We would like a noble tall woman with long blond hair that waves in the wind, dressed white and noble but not overcrowded (maybe with a cloak like "la_donna_di_avalon" which is also waving in the wind), possibly she holds her arms so that her palms are laid to one another in front of her. She should stand on a boat/barque which is crossing the cover from the right so that she shows her profile, (perspective like the German Avalon covers). The boat/barque should have some Celtic ornaments and burning torches on the sides. The background should be the foggy shore of a lake/river with silhouettes of trees. The whole colour setting should be blue and green (and yellow for the torch light),it should have the atmosphere of a foggy and misty morning, but nevertheless powerful."

I think I reached the goal...but I've been lucky in finding good reference photos
As usual I create background by picking photo pieces
and assembling them like in a matte painting.
Props are made in Softimage XSI, modelled by Gabriele Sina.
I worked on 3D lighting and shading.
This is a low budget work so has been created quickly
but anyway I tried to obtain a balanced and nice image.
In the close up below you can notice that somewhere details
are not too much refined but in a general view this is not so important.
Here you have some used photo.
I made a part of this book cover in 3d graphic ( xsi for the helmet and poser for the basic reference face ) but the most part of work was made in photoshop. I shot some reference photos for skin textures and hairs ( thanks to Lorenzo for posing ).
There’s a lot of painting in this work. The beard is totally painted too.
About the helmet : modelled by Gabriele Sina, I did texturing, lighting, shading.

I worked on this little movie together with two guys when I was employed as 3d generalist in Animo s.r.l. few years ago .
This work had to be simple but emotional.
City lights on planet should remind crop circles.
I made lighting, texturing and compositing, spending a lot of attention on colors, the sun ,the eclipse effect , the sky, the planet and the evanescible look of planet ring. It was made for cinema projection. Original frame size is 1828 x 1555 with pixel aspect 2:1

Here you have some low res. still frame
